Playdate

Miss S was playing outside in the front garden yesterday while DH put together his new lawnmower. The girls from two houses down were outside playing as well and came to ask Miss S if she would like to play with them. She did and had "the greatest time Mommy". She played on their trampoline and then had a freezer pop before returning home for dinner. It was a lovely thing to do, as we don't know the neighbours very well and I really appreciate the gesture of friendship to my girl.

Jump

Miss C has recently learned to jump (21 months) and is so excited to show everyone her new skill.  She jumps down the hallway, she jumps walking to the bus stop to collect Miss S, she jumps in stores.  She loves it.  She is a very physical child and loves to jump, roll on the floor and bounce on the couch (even though she is in trouble when she does that)!

I am curious to see if she will enjoy gymnastics when she is older.

Flu

I am recovering from the flu.  DH and I had a date watching Elton John play in concert.  It was amazing, but I started to feel ill during the concert.  Once we returned home and paid the babysitter, I went to bed.  I spent the next two days in bed (which is not like me).  I was grateful that DH was home to help with the girls.  I am feeling much better now and am grateful that the girls managed to stay healthy.

Natural Body Scrub

This is a great natural body scrub.  It's easy to make and can be varied to suit your personal tastes.  The olive oil acts as a moisturizer and leaves your skin very soft.

1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons honey
1/4 teaspoon essential oil, if using (e.g. lavender)

In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together to form a paste.  Store scrub in a sealed container.  I keep mine on my bathroom counter, near the sink so it is convenient to use.  To use, scoop a small amount into the palm of your hand and massage into skin as and where needed.  Rinse off and enjoy your soft skin!

Seedlings

Miss S came home from school with these seedlings. Her class has been learning about plants. She planted peas, a lettuce and a sunflower. We will plant them in the vegetable patch when the weather improves.   I look forward to teaching Miss S about the garden and how things grow.  She had fun last summer picking and eating all the peas that I grew.  I didn't have enough left to freeze!  She will be able to enjoy the peas from her own plant this year.

Reading

This warms my heart. Miss S has been learning to read since joining kindergarten. She has always enjoyed books and entertains herself for hours drawing and writing words (by sounding out) for her own books. She is growing in confidence every day and has started wanting to read her own books and not just the home reading books from school.

Reading is a huge passion of mine and I am so glad it seems I am passing this on to my girls.

Mother's Day Fun

Today was Mother's Day and Miss S and I decided to make play dough.  We had a lot of fun.

Measuring the ingredients

"Steering" (as my 5 year old calls stirring)

Adding colour and "smell"

Playing
Play Dough

3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups salt
6 tsp cream of tartar
3 cups water
3 tbsp vegetable oil
Food coloring

Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Blend all liquids together in a saucepan. Add dry ingredients to the liquids and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat when dough pulls away from sides and can be pinched without sticking. Turn onto counter and knead until smooth.  Add food colouring if desired.

This is a great recipe.  It's easy to make, stores really well and Miss S loves to play with it.
