31 Days of Autumn {Day 3}: Snickerdoodle Cookies

Snickerdoodles are a sugar cookie rolled in cinnamon sugar.  They are crispy on the edge with chewy centres.

This recipe makes approximately 40 cookies.


1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon


1.  Heat oven to 400F.

2.  Beat the sugar, butter, shortening and eggs in large bowl until creamy (about 2 to 3 minutes).

3.  Stir in the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.

4.  Shape dough into 1 1/4" balls.

5.  Mix the 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon together in a small bowl.

6.  Roll balls in the sugar mixture and place onto a lined cookie sheet approximately 2 inches apart.

7.  Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until set.

8.  Immediately remove from cookie sheet and cool on wire rack.
