31 Days of Autumn {Day 7}: Favourite Autumn Books

I thought I would share my favourite autumn books today.  These are the ones I turn to when the weather cools and I can sit next to the fire, with a cup of tea in hand, snuggled under a blanket.

Harry Potter series by J K Rowling

I love this series of books about Harry and his friends.  Harry is a boy who finds out on his eleventh birthday that he is a wizard and the series tells about his coming of age, his adventures with his friends at his wizarding boarding school and overcoming the dark wizard Lord Voldemort.

A Woman of Substance by Barbara Taylor Bradford

This book tells the story of Emma Harte, who is a kitchen maid in 1905, and the struggles she endures to become one of the richest women in the world.  Emma shows an indomitable spirit and relentless perserverance.

Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery

A lovely heartwarming story of the adventures of Anne Shirley, a orphan girl adopted by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert who have a farm on Prince Edward Island.  I love her spirit and imagination.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

One of my favourites!  Wonderful, humorous story of love and life in Georgian England.

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks

A beautiful story about a young couple who fall in love in the 1940s, their separation, subsequent reunion and the enduring power of love.

Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder

This series of books follows the adventures of the pioneering Ingalls family. Lovely books describing life on the American frontier from a child's perspective.

Beatrix Potter - A Life in Nature by Linda Lear

A wonderful biography about the creator of Peter Rabbit.  A fascinating woman dedicated to preserving and protecting nature.

All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot

Fabulous book.  Takes me back to where I used to live.  A semi-biographical book about the adventures of James Herriot (pen name for James Wight), a veterinarian who lived and practiced in Yorkshire from the 1930s onwards.
